What Breed of Dog is best for my needs?

Well, i have a medium sized apartment, so i need a dog who is content in a relatively small environment. Also it has to be medium sized, i would love a big sized one like a grey hound, ut i cant, so id have to go with medium sized (and i also hate those small breed wanna be dogs). IT has to be lazy, and enjoy lying beside me while i watch TV, when im at home, and also NO SLOBBERING, OR SHREDDING. I love the bulldog, but it slobbers, and i love the bet hound, but it shreds and it is quite stupid so PLEASE HELP, thank you!!
