Can you press charges on someone who stole & used your EBT (food stamp) card?
Here's a little detail.. We lived with my FIL & his wife for awhile, and we applied for food stamps.. Well we couldn't find a job,so ended up moving back home.. We got approved for food stamps AFTER we moved out of state,my EBT card went to his (FIL's) house, since that's the address we were staying at.. He opened my mail WITHOUT my permission, and he as access to my food stamp information..I got that current EBT card canceled, but I didn't know we were approved til 7 days later,so he could of used my card without my permission... When I call the Florida Department of Families and Children's number,I keep getting recordings, and when I did get a live person to talk to and asked if I could see if someone used my card, she hung up on me!! if my FIL & his wife used my card, can I press charges on them? I know they can't replace the funds that were used, but I want to press charges on them.. They refuse to mail me my card, they said they mailed it,then when we called them back, they said they cut it up.. My FIL has my card and keeps changing his story about it.. Is there some legal action I can take? I was in Florida and was approved for Food Stamps there, and he has that card.. He's opening my mail with my name on it without my permission, isn't that illegal even though we lived with him for a short time? He doesn't have my permission to open my mail, but he is opening my mail.. PLEASE help, what can I do? Where can I turn?
