Annoying Gum Boil?

I have a gum boil (gum ball) on my gum at the right bottom side of my third molar. Its on the side of the gum and it's somewhat firm, but if I had to get something to puncture it, it should burst. I've tried the salt and baking soda concoction with a damped cotton ball swab and put it on my gum for a couple of hours to try and make it burst. But constantly spitting out the salt and baking soda is VERY frustrating. Someone told me if I close my eyes really tight and took salt and rubbed to gum boil until it burst it should take care of the problem. Would this be a possibility?
